Educated at the University of Southern California, Sal Abbinanti (Sam to his friends) now lives and works on the north side of Chicago. Sal has worked with such classic characters as the Atom, Swamp Thing and Conan and acquired the rights to the Atomika series in 1999.
"I remember getting ahold of one of the original Soviet Atomika comics when I was a kid and I became fascinated with the whole concept. The interesting part of reading that book was that, when I was growing up, we were in the middle of the Cold War and I was living here in Chicago getting the story of the Soviet empire being this great evil. This comic was telling the story from the Soviet point of view," he recalls. "Now I get to tell this story and enhance the characters and enhance the world. On top of that, I get to work with the best in the business to pull it off."
