Superstar Alex Ross was born in Portland, Oregon, raised in Lubbock, Texas, and educated in Chicago, Illinois, Ross began working as a professional comic book artist in the early 1990’s with the Now Comics series Terminator: The Burning Earth, but it was the 1993 mini-series Marvels, collaborated on with writer/editor Kurt Busiek, that caught the attention of the media, both within the industry and outside it. Marvels took a realistic look at Marvel superheroes by presenting them from the point of view of an ordinary man
Ross followed up Marvels with Kingdom Come, a futuristic story for DC Comics about a minister who must intercede in a superhero Civil War and Uncle Sam, a 96-page story that took a hard look at the dark side of American history.

Between 1999 and 2003 Ross concentrated on a series of fully painted, tabloid-sized books: Superman: Peace on Earth, Batman: War on Crime, Shazam!: Power of Hope, Wonder Woman: Spirit of Truth and JLA: Liberty and Justice. These would eventually be collected as the hardcover The World’s Greatest Super-Heroes.

His friendship and collaboration with writer Jim Krueger (Foot Soldiers) resulted in the Earth X Trilogy: Earth X (1999), Universe X (2000) and Paradise X (2002). Their most recent teaming resulted in the 12 issue series Justice (2005). Justice, a special story centering on the classic Justice League of America, was penciled by Doug Braithwaite and painted by Ross.

In 2006, Ross teamed up with writer Geoff Johns and Canadian artist Dale Eaglesham to re-launch Justice Society of America. “Thy Kingdom Come”, currently running thru the Justice Society series features the arrival of the Kingdom Come Superman to the present-day DC Universe.

2008 is a big year for Alex Ross. Earlier this year Project: Superpowers began at Dynamite Entertainment, a project reviving many of the Golden Age of Comics’ greatest heroes and in May, Avengers/Invaders, a  Marvel Comics/Dynamite Entertainment collaboration features the return of the greatest heroes of World War II as they interact with the post-Civil War Marvel Universe. And in July 2008, Ross has contributed a stunning wrap-around cover to Uncanny X-Men 500.

An accomplished illustrator, Alex Ross is well known for his iconic imagery. His paintings have graced the covers of many different comics, posters, prints, plates and more over the last 15 years. In 2002 he produced a limited-edition promotional poster for the 2002 Academy Awards. A number of items created especially for the Warner Bros. Studio Stores – including lithographs, collector’s plates and even a canvas painting of Superman – made him the best-selling artist in the chain’s history.
