For over thirty years, Bob Layton has done it all in the comics industry: penciller, inker, writer, editor and publisher. Bob Layton’s accomplishments within the industry are many and varied. In 1978, with writing partner David Michelinie, Bob totally re-imagined Marvel’s Invincible Iron Man, ultimately transforming it from a low-end book into one of Marvel’s all-time best sellers. He also wrote and drew the first Marvel mini-series Hercules – Prince of Power, which spawned a sequel and a graphic novel. He revived the original X-Men team with Marvel’s X-Factor.

Layton was also the co-architect of the Valiant Universe, serving as Valiant’s Editor-In-Chief and Senior Vice President. While EIC at Valiant, Layton successful turned the company around from being in debt to hugely profitable within two years of taking the job. In 1993 he was selected by the fans as the Editor of Year for 1993 by the readers of Wizard Magazine. Shortly after Valiant was sold to Acclaim Entertainment, Layton retired from comics and moved to Florida.

Layton returned to comics a couple of years later, working with Dick Giordano on some DC Comics projects: Batman: Dark Knight of the Round Table, Batman: Hollywood Knight and The L.A.W. During this time, Layton and Michelinie returned to Marvel and Iron Man to produce Iron Man: Bad Blood. Layton also teamed with Dan Jurgens on Captain America and the Avengers.

Layton, along with Dick Giordano and Dave Michelinie founded Future Comics. Although Layton was eventually forced to close that chapter of his career after only two and a half years in business, the Future intellectual properties are still alive and several are currently under development in Hollywood. Layton is currently working with David Michelinie and Executive Producer Robert Keyghobad (Carnivale', Cupid) on the development of new properties for major motion pictures and television.

In addition, Bob and David have recently returned to Marvel Comics and Iron Man, creating a new limited series to be released in conjunction with the Iron Man major motion picture in 2008 entitled Iron Man: Legacy of Doom debuts in April 2008. A second project, a 48 page one shot will be released later this year and is entitled Iron Man: The End.

David Michelinie began his comics writing career at DC, producing stories for the House of Mystery and Swamp Thing. He has since gone on to write many of comicdom’s most popular characters in some of the most celebrated runs.

In 1978 Michelinie and Bob Layton, as well as John Romita Jr., reinvisioned the character of Iron Man, ultimately transforming it from a low-end book into one of Marvel’s all-time best sellers, while at the same time writing the Avengers with art by John Byrne, George Perez and others. He also wrote many issues of Marvel’s Star Wars comic. In the late 1980’s Michelinie began a much-celebrated run on The Amazing Spider-Man, writing the title for 7 years and teaming with artists like Todd McFarlane, Erik Larsen and Mark Bagley. In 1988 he created the character Venom for the Amazing Spider-Man. Venom has since gone on to become one of Spider-Man’s most dangerous --- and popular --- enemies. After Stan Lee, David Michelinie has written the most number of issues of the Amazing Spider-Man as well as many Spider-Man and Venom-related spin-offs.

Michelinie also wrote the adventures of Superman in Action Comics in the 1990's, producing a long and popular run on that title that ended with Action Comics #736. During that time period he also worked on some titles for Valiant Comics, including Rai and the H.A.R.D.Corps. In the late 1990's, Layton and Michelinie returned to Marvel and Iron Man to produce Iron Man: Bad Blood.

In 1987, Grell returned to DC to reinvasion Green Arrow in the fan-favourite series Green Arrow: The Longbow Hunters, which in turn spawned a long running Green Arrow title, written by Grell, one that also had many spin-off mini-series like Green Arrow: The Wonder Years and Shado. During that time he also wrote and drew the acclaimed James Bond: Permission to Die series for Eclipse and launched his creator-owned series for Image Shaman’s Tears.

In 2003-4, Grell was the writer on Iron Man for Marvel Comics, and during his run Tony Stark decided to reveal to the world that he was Iron Man. In recent years, Grell has been reviving Jon Sable, Freelance at IDW Publishing with the mini-series Jon Sable Freelance: Bloodtrail and a series of trade paperback reprints of the original series. A new series, Jon Sable Freelance: Ashes of Eden, will be serialized on-line starting in April 2008 and will be published as a graphic novel when completed.

Michael is a freelance cartoonist/illustrator based in Toronto. For 3 years, he drew the popular "Max Finder Mysteries" children's comic feature for Owl magazine, which has recently been collected up into 3 volumes of graphic novels. He has drawn lots of other children's books and drawn a load of editorial illustrations as well. His comic story "NIGHT TIME" was a finalist for a 2005 Canadian Magazine Award. He's also written and illustrated other comics which have appeared in NEGATIVE BURN, PROJECT ROMANTIC and a couple of other obscure publications. He's also inked MY DEAD GIRLFRIEND for Eric Wight and Tokyopop. Right now, Michael is currently hard at work on writing and drawing a graphic novel of short stories which he calls "his baby", as well as another children's graphic novel about the adventures of a monkey in outer space.

Mark made his first small press comic in 1983, and began regularly making zines in 1988, starting with the first of 7 Wavemakers anthology, digests, and eventually joined the United Fanzine Organisation. In 1990-91 he published 2 giant, independant comic book Wavemakers anthologies. In 1994-96 he produced Dinky On the Road, OatMeal 1-2, and Dreamtime 1-3. He partnered with former Sheridan classmate and Saturday Morning animator Mark Petlock, to help get his Pulp Tattoo comic to retailers. In 1997 he published a fat digest called Glass Eye that contained his life story to that point, plus leftover goodies that were sitting around. GLASS EYE was re-published as an anthology in late 2005 and was followed in 2006 with THE ROMANTIC EYE. In early 2008, THE COMIC EYE was released, containing the work of many Canadian writers and artists.

Perhaps one of the busiest artists working in comic books, Leonard Kirk has worked on nearly every major Marvel and DC character since breaking into the business in the early 1990's including long and popular runs on Supergirl, Aquaman, Freshmen, Amazing Fantasy, JSA, Batman and Detective Comics.

Alvin Lee started his comic book career at age 17 when he started working as an inker for Pat Lee, co-founder of now defunct Dreamwave Productions. Alvin Lee worked on titles such as the Dark Minds, Neon Cyber, & Warlands. His first comic as penciller was for Warlands:Banished Knights.

In 2001, Lee joined UDON as a lead artist with the revival of Capcom's Street Fighter comic books and Darkstalkers comic books. His talent has also led to the game art of two Capcom videogame titles, Capcom Fighting Jam and the re-release of Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. UDON was also an independent publisher and worked as a contract studio releasing a few of Marvel & Wildstorm titles, Alvin was responsible for the Deadpool / Agent X redesign & Taskmaster new costume design in 2002, Marvel Mangaverse: Avengers Assemble! #1, X-Men: Age of Apocalypse, & Fantastic Four (3rd Series) #50 and with Wildstorm Gen 13 Issue #7.

Lee left UDON Entertainment group as of mid-2007, and has worked directly with Marvel since on titles such as Heroes for Hire (issues #14-15). He recently released an instructional DVD entitled "Comic Book Layout and Pencilling with Alvin Lee" for Gnoman Workshop.

Francis Manapul is a professional comic book artist based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He was born in Manila, Philippines on August 26th, 1979 and moved Toronto with his family in 1989. Francis works out of his home studio in Toronto and enjoys movies, music, poker and video games when he isn't at the drawing table.

Francis began his career as a professional comic book artist at the age of eighteen with a book published by SLG Publishing called "Love in Tights". He moved on to Top Cow Productions, where he worked on several books including a long successful run on their flagship title Witchblade. Following his time on Witchblade, Francis collaborated with writer Joshua Ortega to launch the mini-series Necromancer. Beginning in late 2006 after Francis finished his tenure at Top Cow, he collaborated with creator Jason Rubin (Crash Bandicoot) on his creator owned mini-series called Iron and the Maiden. Iron and the Maiden is the first creator owned property published by Aspen MLT, and was launched at the 2007 San Diego Comicon. Francis is almost finished work on his first European graphic novel - Sept Guerriers to be published first half of 2008 by Delcourt. Over the past several years Francis has also worked on covers or stories for many different titles such as Battle of the Planets, G.I. Joe, G.I. Joe Frontline, Masters of the Universe and Tomb Raider.

In 2007, Francis signed a two year exclusive contract with DC Comics and his first project at DC is the fan favourite "The Legion of Superheroes", with writer Jim Shooter starting with issue #37 (January 2008).

Joseph O'Brien has worked extensively in film, television and comics, as well as published fiction and non-fiction. A produced screenwriter and film producer, the Canadian native shot his first film as a young boy growing up in Toronto. He broke into the industry at the age of 26 with the production of his screenplay for the thriller Papertrail, starring the late Chris Penn and Michael Madsen (Reservoir Dogs). The film was released internationally by Lions Gate Films in 1998.

Tapped by Fireworks Entertainment to resurrect the popular Robocop franchise, he developed and wrote four feature-length movies-for-television collectively known as Robocop: Prime Directives. The large-scale production became hugely successful upon broadcast on the SciFi Channel, Space: The Imagination Station and other networks worldwide in 2001.

As producer of the controversial NFB-funded animated short Hoverboy, he accepted the coveted Audience Prize at the 2000 Digital Image Festival. The film drew enormous viewership at its world premiere on iFilm, and is presently being developed as both a comic book and a television series.

He enjoys a devoted international following for his noted work with the popular horror magazines Rue Morgue and Fangoria. His short horror fiction appears in two award-winning anthologies (hailed as "definitive" by best-selling author and filmmaker Clive Barker), Queer Fear and Queer Fear II. In 2006 he was a member of the inaugural jury for the Toronto After Dark Film Festival, celebrating the best in international cult cinema.

His first published work in comics, Revolution on the Planet of the Apes, garnered him a nomination for the prestigious Joe Shuster Award (named in honour of Superman creator Joe Shuster) as Outstanding Writer 2006. It was also named one of the ten best comic book series of the year by the Scripps Howard News Service, who hailed it as "a brilliantly constructed story of human rights in the face of social change".

Dave Ross has drawn for Marvel Comics and DC Comics on Captain America, Spider-Man, Batgirl, Star Trek, Daredevil, Birds of Prey, Alpha Flight, Avengers West Coast, Thunderbolts, JLA: Act of God, Excalibur and many other projects. He was also an artist for the series Rai at Valiant, and has worked as a concept designer and layout artist for animation. Dave Ross is also a teacher at Toronto's Max the Mutt Animation School. Dave is currently illustrating Star Wars: Dark Times for Dark Horse Comics.

Ty Templeton is a popular Canadian comic book artist and writer who has drawn a number of popular mainstream titles, TV-associated titles and his own series.

He first received attention for Stig's Inferno (Vortex Comics), now a cult favourite, which detailed the journey of its lead character into Hell in a parody of Dante's Divine Comedy. He has gone on to do titles for Marvel Comics & DC Comics including Batman Adventures, Justice League International, Ren & Stimpy, as well as The Simpsons Comics for Bongo, and many others. He also created his own graphic novel, Bigg Time, published by DC Comics adult brand, Vertigo. He was editor for independent Canadian comic company, Mr.Comics and wrote Revolution on the Planet of the Apes for the company with Joe O'Brien. He is also the author of the books 'How to Draw Batman' and 'How to Draw Superman' and is a popular teacher at Toronto's Max the Mutt Animation School.

Ty recently completed a short run as writer on She-Hulk and a Howard the Duck mini-series for Marvel Comics.

Richard Zajac has been working in comics for 4 years and has been published by various companies. After his run on Devil's Due's G.I. Joe:America's Elite, Special Missions and Dreadnoks, he has most recently done a short stint inking for Big City Comics and is an ink assistant for vetern inker Mark McKenna. He has published his own book, Thoughtless as both inker and writer. He keeps busy with inking, pencilling, writing, commissions, and charity work as he and his wife Nancy are the Canadian representatives for the Hero Initiative.
